Performance for a birthday Yup, last week was the Nation's 'birthday'. Today was someone else's. A few of us from Wild Empire were requested to perform for a birthday celebration at HortPark. So bringing our best gear down (our vocals, that is) to the party, along with a selection from our repertoire, we performed melodiously for the VIP, as well as his family and friends. On behalf of Wild Empire, we would like to thank Samuel for the invitation, and wish him a very happy birthday! 16st August 2008
Happy Birthday Singapore! Today is National Day! On behalf of Wild Empire, we would like to wish Singapore a very happy birthday. 9st August 2008
New updates and stuff! First of all, sorry for the late update. Secondly, as you can see, we have updated our group photo, taken from our recent 'Happening Happenings 2008' concert. The photo album has also been updated with the concert photos, so you can scoot over to have a look. Audio and video recordings will be up soon. Thirdly, we have also added a 'Links' section on the left side, to engage other choirs to come together and develop a local choral community, also known as the Choral HUB. Through the Choral HUB, we will link up blogs and webpages of various choirs so that we can help to promote each others presence and activity in the choral community. Thus, we would warmly welcome 'Kranji Secondary School Choir' and 'Crescent Girls' Choir' as our first two links. Lastly, we have added a miscellaneous news section below, for any interesting sights and sounds that we would like to share with everyone else. 5st August 2008
In Other News... Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music presents... Free concerts! Of course this is also an opportunity to expand your knowledge further into the world of classical music. On 18th August 2008, at 12 noon, there will be a recital featuring Rossini's Concerto for Bassoon, Peteris Vasks’ Das Buch for solo Cello, Chopin’s Ballade No. 4, Op. 52 and Tchaikovsky’s Valse Scherzo for Violin. Later in the evening, there will be another recital on the piano, for four hands. Renowned pianists from Italy, Roberto Metro and Elvire Foti will perform Liszt's own transcriptions for piano duet of the popular Hungarian Rhapsodies. The following morning, on 19th August 2008, Roberto Metro and Elvire Foti will stay on to have a masterclass for piano duettists, focusing of pieces like Dello Jioi's Aria & Toccata (1955), and Liszt's Grand Fantasy on Bellini's Norma. Ride your music! Ever played Dance Dance Revolution or BeatMania series, but always felt it as a hazzle to travel to arcade? Or how about the Guitar Hero series, but hope that there was something similar on a PC? Enter Audiosurf. With just your mouse and trusty music collection, you can literally play with your music! And I do mean all your music, because it does not restrict you to just those songs that are pre-loaded with the game. All you have to do is search for a song, load it, and voila, you have a personalised 'track' that follows the song. What follows next is a bit like a racing game. The 'track' consists of coloured blocks, which must be picked up, and grey blocks, which must be avoided, laid out along a road. How the road is built, is based on the song. If the song has a fast tempo or melody, the road would slope down, with sharp twists and turns. If the song is slow and calming, the road would slope up, with very few bends. The game also comes with the Orange Box soundtrack, which contains the background music from the Half-Life 2 series, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. To play the game, you would need a computer that has been built around 2004 or later, and a Steam account (those who are playing Team Fortress 2 or Half-Life 2, should know what a Steam account is). To purchase the game, and it is quite cheap, you can head over the Steam website. Happy surfing! 15th August 2008

Let's try some tests How about an adaptive pitch test? This test 'measures your pitch perception abilities by adapting to your responses'. Or maybe try this test to see if you have an accurate tone? Be warned though, because the test has been 'purposefully made very hard, so excellent musicians rarely score above 80% correct'. 5th August 2008

Here We Come A Carolling Be prepared to get conquered by the sounds of Wild Empire! First stop, The British Club (Singapore), one of Singapore's first social club, and not to mention, prestigious too. They have also requested for a special programme, so get ready to be mesmerised. The show starts at 6pm around their Christmas tree. Next stop, Parkway Parade. A great place to spend your time shopping and eating, and listening to our joyous voices every night. We would be there every night except Monday, from the 9th of December at 8pm under the giant Christmas tree outside the basement. And if we experience any wet weather, we would be at the office entrance, next to the New Zealand Natural Ice Cream outlet. But that's not all. We will also be carolling around the city area as well, at four yet-to-be disclosed places, including two very posh hotels. Stay tuned for more updates. 28 November 2008

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas Everywhere you go... we'll be carolling in a Grand hotel, one in a Forum as well, the place that's next to Hilton Hotel... Oh wait, we'll be carolling there too! On the 20th and 21st of December, we would be at Forum The Shopping Gallery, starting off with our songs are 3pm. Right after Forum The Shopping Gallery, we would be heading towards Hilton Hotel Singapore, and continuing our carols at 5pm. On the following week, we would end off our carolling performances on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, at the Grand Corpthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore. Whilst you are enjoying your lunch and dinner at the nearby coffeehouse, we would be gleefully singing, and eyeing your food as well. So don't forget to bring us some figgy pudding, and a cup of good cheer too! 17 December 2008
